CBD-Infused Mozzarella Is The Cozy Warmth We Need This Quarantine

There’s multiple ways to relax amongst these stressful periods of self-isolation, with comfort food and CBD being two of those methods. One cheesemaker is bridging the gap between the two but putting them together into a single CBD mozzarella cheese.

Cheese supplier Caputo Cheese is getting ready to launch their Elevated Cow product line, which takes cannabidiols and infuses them into fresh mozzarella cheese. Owner Natale Caputo has been working on the infused cheeses for the past couple of years and is finally ready to bring it to market.

The CBD-infused mozzarella will come in three different varieties: 5 oz. Ovoline, 8 oz. Bocconcini, and 12 oz. slices. Elevated Cow claims that their mozz comes with a potency of 5 mg of CBD per ounce of cheese. They also verify each batch with lab test results that are sent out to those who purchase it, and will post trackable results to their website.

While CBD mozzarella sounds like an amazing thing to purchase, for now, this will be restricted to restaurant purchase only. This does mean, however, that pizza restaurants and other places selling cheesy creations in the US will be able to create CBD-infused cheese concoctions.

Caputo is targeting to release the CBD mozzarella sometime around 4/20.

A Whole Festival Dedicated To Pinot Wine Finally Comes to the US

Festival culture has become a way of life for many. Whether its music festivals like Coachella and Governor’s Ball or food fests like Smorgasburg and the Jack Daniel’s World Championship Barbecue Invitational, there’s truly something for everyone… including red wine fans! Enter Pinot Palooza.

Just in time for California’s Crush (when wineries get their grapes crushed and their juice into tanks as quickly as possible), many of the world’s wine producers will come to showcase their pinot noirs on September 28th as the festival makes its U.S. debut at Downtown Los Angeles’ City Market Social House.

Not your typical wine tasting, festival goers will be able to taste over 100 wines from different regions, including Sonoma, Oregon, Australia, and New Zealand. For those who either don’t do wine, Pinot Palooza will also feature spirits, craft beer, and curated bites from some of the city’s chefs and restaurants.

Launched in 2012 in Australia, Pinot Palooza is the brainchild of REVEL. “Bringing Pinot Palooza to the U.S. has been on our wish list since the very beginning,” says Dan Sims, REVEL Founder/Creator. “To finally be in L.A. for the first time, and to welcome Angelenos to our big, noisy, pinot party is a dream come true.

“Our vision for the L.A. event is to showcase pinot noir from top U.S. producers alongside those made by our good mates in Australia and New Zealand, and to present all that to an American audience in way that celebrates what’s so special about the grape,” adds Sims. “The atmosphere we create helps to make wine more accessible, and it allows people to find what they like and get excited about the world of pinot.”

This year, the festival will tour six countries and thirteen cities across the globe and is gearing up to add New York and Shanghai to the tour in 2020.

How Cannabis Can Enhance Wellness and Mindfulness

Yoga has been in my life for as long as I can remember, but the relationship I’ve had with my practice has changed drastically over the last couple years. The biggest change was in my outlook. Yoga once was just a form of exercise for me, but has become an integral part of my self-care routine, and necessary for remaining sane among the craziness of life.

If one were to look at a timeline, they’d notice this change coincidentally occurred when I moved from DC to California, transitioning from a land with strict limitations surrounding cannabis to the new frontier in the industry – I said goodbye to the days of having to text an unreliable “dealer” to replenish my stash, and hello to the concept of a med card and plenty of dispensaries within a 2-mile vicinity.

I would be lying if I said the ease of acquiring cannabis didn’t impact the frequency with which I consumed it. Who’d blame me? But I found these moments becoming less about “indulging” and the East Coast guilt surrounding it (yeah, I’m making that a thing), and more about mental health and getting in tune with myself.

I initiated a little case study as I first started out in the land of legal cannabis. Some days I’d take a hit or two before my yoga class, and some days I’d go without. I noticed a stark difference between the two: on days I’d consume, I got far deeper into my practice, was more regulated with my breathing, and less inhibited to try poses, even if they were typically out of my comfort zone. I felt alive during my practice instead of counting down the minutes until my workout was over.

Experiencing yoga in this way, without the barriers of hyper awareness and self doubt, gave me such a different experience that it was worth noting – and repeating. And now that recreational cannabis is legalized in the state of California for adults, there are tons of product options to incorporate into your routine. One of the most interesting brands I’ve come across is Dosist, which I found at Blüm Dispensary.

Dosist calls themselves “the first complete solution in cannabis,” and I agree that they’ve made a revolutionary product. The brand has created a vape of sorts that gives out consistent “doses” each time. To be specific, the user inhales for about 4-5 seconds and then will feel a vibration from the pen, noting the completion of a dose. They have six different pens, with each eliciting a different vibe or feeling: bliss, sleep, calm, relief, arouse, and passion.

Dosist uses varying ratios of THC to CBD, along with culinary grade terpenes to interact with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) inside each of us to achieve the “mood” associated with each pen. For example, the “Calm” pen is a 1:10 THC to CBD ratio, and contains terpenes like limonene, known to relieve stress and anxiety, and myrcene, known for its muscle relaxing properties. The “Relief” pen is a 10:1 THC to CBD ratio, and contains terpenes like terpinolene, known for its relaxing properties, and beta-caryophyllene, which is said to lower inflammation and reduce pain.

These effects are just a couple examples of the benefits cannabis has had on my yoga practice. Let’s be real – yoga is deeply rooted in flow and movement and some positions seem like part of a contortionist act, so it’s important for the body to be in a malleable state to achieve certain postures. Relieving the body of stress or inflammation can loosen your muscles, allowing you to get deeper into poses with less discomfort.

The usage of terpenes is also beneficial to us when in food, not just with cannabis. At a recent wellness event with Dosist at ESO Live Well, a nutritionist-curated menu featured build-your-own avocado toast, fresh berries, and egg frittatas. Avocados contain the terpene myrcene, and raspberries contain the terpene limonene, two terpenes also found in the Dosist “Calm” pen. Consuming terpene-rich foods can nourish the body and accentuate your practice, too, especially when in tandem with their counterparts found in cannabis.

Products like Dosist that blend together the plant medicine of cannabis with terpene “therapy” take the guesswork out of self care, and empower users seeking to control their mood and outlook. 2 large cucumbers
2 large tomatoes
1 cilantro
1 large white onion
1/2 serrano
20 limes
1 lemon
1 pound of ground white fish
1 pound of shrimp
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper

Instructions:
Let the fish and shrimp cook in the lime and lemon juice, dice everything and don’t forget to toss the seeds from the tomato and cucumber. TAKE OUT THE SERRANO SEEDS!! Mix everything together while adding salt and pepper all over. Keep refrigerated.

Add avocados and chips/tostadas.

The First Ever Fast Food CBD Item Will Be Sold By Carl’s Jr. On 4/20 Only

It was only a matter of time before cannabinoids got into fast food, considering how the trend has been sweeping across the nation. Carl’s Jr. is officially making itself the first fast food chain to test an infused item, as they’re releasing a CBD-infused burger on 4/20.

The Carl’s Jr. test item is called the Rocky Mountain High: CheeseBurger Delight. It consists of two beef patties cooked with pepper jack cheese, pickled jalapenos, crisscut fries, and a CBD-infused Santa Fe Sauce. Carl’s teamed up with Bluebird Botanicals to get the CBD oil to make their sauce with, ensuring that each burger has 5 mg of CBD inside of it.

For those wondering, CBD is the non-psychoactive part of marijuana (which is known as THC). You won’t get high from ingesting it, but it will act as a relaxant and calming agent, and has been rumored to help with everything from pain management to mental health.

Carl’s Jr. has decided to only sell the burger at a single location in Denver on 4/20. Since Colorado was the pioneer state to breakthrough and legalize marijuana, it makes sense to start selling fast food that contains CBD or cannabinoids in the same state.

Spiking Top Ramen With Rosé Is The Kitchen Power Move Of 2019

Ingredients
1 package Nissin Top Ramen Chicken Flavor
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 shallot, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 cup heavy cream
1 pinch red chili flakes + some for optional garnish
1 pinch ground pepper
½ tablespoon lemon juice
¾ cup shredded parmesan cheese + some for optional garnish
1 ½ cups rosé wine
Chopped parsley, as optional garnish

Servings: 1

Directions

Step 1
Bring a saucepan of water to boil over high heat. Once boiling, add 1 package of Top Ramen noodles. Cook noodles for 3 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Step 2
Heat olive oil in a medium frying pan on high heat. Once hot, add chopped shallots, garlic, chili flakes, and pepper. Sauté until transparent. Then, add wine. Allow wine to reduce by half, then add heavy cream and stir. Set to low and simmer for 5-10 minutes.

Step 3
Add flavor packet and parmesan cheese to the cream sauce. Once incorporated, stir in lemon juice.

Step 4
Transfer cooked noodles to a skillet and add sauce. Toss until coated evenly. Serve immediately, and garnish with parmesan cheese, parsley, and more chili flakes!

Chef’s Buffalo Fried Cornish Hen Showcases The Culinary Potential Of Terpenes

Cannabis and CBD-infused foods are becoming more popular as legalization spreads across the nation. Companies like Coca-Cola are even taking the edible trend into consideration as fervor continues to spike, having been in reported talks with Aurora Cannabis to develop potential products.

As a result, other compounds derived from cannabis are also getting attention for their benefits and potential usage in food. A particular category coming into the spotlight more frequently are terpenes, which are aromatic oils found in foods and plants. Terpene extracts have no psychoactive effects and can be derived from either the cannabis plant itself or extracted from foods and sold in concentrated form.

While terpenes are found in a variety of plants other than cannabis, their effects on mental health and the psychoactive experience have made them part of the conversation. Lagunitas has already collaborated on a sparkling beverage combining hops with several terpene profiles to put a new spin on the adult-beverage category.

This usage of terpenes has continued in the pop-up dinner scene, where these extracts are often used to elevate the experience through an approach similar to wine pairings with coursed dishes. A recent Foodbeast x Blüm Cannabazaar dinner was a strong example of how the two pair together for a heightened culinary affair.

The meal was prepared by Chef Luke Reyes, known for his low-dose and infused meal experiences put on by cannabis catering and events firm La Hoja. Reyes sourced a “Lemon Haze” terpene extract to pair with the limonene and myrcene profiles found in Canndescent’s “Connect” flower. Reyes added this terpene extract as a part of a unique take on ranch dressing.

Chef Reyes’s dish was an elevated version of buffalo wings, with buttermilk fried Cornish game hen playing the role of chicken. Those wings were tossed in a fermented chili hot sauce and garnished with the terpene-infused ranch and garnished with a salad featuring pickled celery, carrots, and fresh cannabis leaves.

The “Lemon Haze” terpene was paired with the dish because of its citrus notes and calming effects. It’s an interesting ingredient to add, since the compound has been reported to be beneficial, even if it’s not taken alongside cannabis.

One could describe this as “culinary aromatherapy,” since inhaling those scents during the meal enhance the overall experience. Limonene, for example, which is found in lemons, has been shown to elevate a person’s mood.

In the case of the Cornish Game Hen wings, the aromas from the “Lemon Haze” terpene combined with the fried chicken was a pairing of comfort food and heightened relaxation, making folks feel content and chill at the focal point of the meal.

Moments that incorporate this type of aromatic experience are starting to gain some traction in the world of food, and rightfully so, considering fine dining is an all-encompassing sensory experience. Regardless of whether it be with cannabis or not, we may start seeing more terpene dishes and drinks in the future.

We Got Three FOODBEASTs Together For The Ultimate Junk Food Cooking Competition

In the spirit of the recent gridiron fervor, we here at Foodbeast decided to create some competition of our own all in the name of cooking and a blown mindstate. The willing advocates of both, who within our ranks stepped up as players in one aptly titled Gridiron Green Games, were myself, Elie Ayrouth, and Analiese Trimber. For particulars, this was going to be a Chopped-style cooking competition between the three of us, with the winner awarded rightful bragging rights and having the best reason to celebrate with a big fatty.

To help us in this journey to a culinary Kumite was blüm Dispensaries, who provided some of that loud from Korova called “Gelato,” known for its fruity, dessert-like aroma.

Now before we get right into the heat of the competition, let’s talk rules and other details.

Rules:

  • Contestants must finish a recipe of their choosing that incorporates all mandatory ingredients within the allotted time of 1 hour and 30 minutes — all while on an elevated plane.
  • The mandatory ingredients are: Eggs, popcorn, McDonald’s French fries, and OREOs.
  • Contestants’ dishes will be judged on a 10 point system based on: Completeness, Creativity, Secret Ingredients, Taste, Presentation.
  • Judging will consist of contestants scoring each other’s dishes, but not their own, and fellow Foodbeasts Evan Lancaster and Peter Pham.
  • The contestant with the most points total is the winner.

Contestants:

Analiese Trimber: The Bacon Princess, thinks Tom Brady is a bitch.

Dish: Stoner Breakfast Tacos with OREO mole sauce and handmade popcorn-infused corn tortillas.

 

Elie Ayrouth: Fearless and fierce in pushing the envelope, mastered the art of the one-eyed wink.

Dish: A trifecta of a meal that consists of Stoner Popcorn, a massive Big Mac Burrito and an OREO “Dunkaroos” dessert.

Dish: Double-panko breaded Fried Chicken & Savory Potato Waffle w/ OREO Butter.

The following will be a time-stamped account of the events during the competition leading up to the announcement of the winner of Foodbeast’s Gridiron Green Games.

1:00pm — Evan begins rolling the fatty with the aid of the Otto by Banana Bros., an automatic joint roller, courtesy of blüm. It’s a nifty machine, really, fast-tracking rolling with ease and efficiency via a built-in grinder and apparatus that capably packs with Gelato flower.

1:20pm — After we all are done with setting up our designated cooking areas, the session begins. Elie is really hitting it extra hard. I hope he gets so blown that he won’t be able to finish his dish.

1:30pm — Let the Gridiron Green Games begin!

1:33pm — Elie, the tallest of the contestants: “I don’t understand how I get this little baby table and Analiese and Reach get tables that go up to their elbows. They’re playin’ me!”

1:40pm — At this point we’re all starting to appreciate the Gelato, which had its benefits and setbacks. Its benefits being a greater feeling of singular focus and drive. Setbacks coming in the form of me forgetting where I left my phone and searching for it for a solid two minutes.

1:50pm — Evan: “So far we know Analiese is incorporating chipotle pepper paste into what looks like a sauce of some sort, while Elie and Reach are both still cutting onions. Clearly, Annie is in the lead.”

1:51pm — I see Elie finishing up the chopping of his onions, then hear Evan warning anybody within earshot, “DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.”

2:00pm — We’re at the peak levels of determination. Evidenced by a sudden hush in the kitchen as the Gelato-induced laser focus hits all of us, putting us in an elevated work mode. Analiese’s re-worked her mole sauce after she asked for feedback from other fellow Foodbeast and on-set photographer, Peter Pham, and I. Elie’s ready to work the stove after forming his burger patties. I’ve just completed my OREO butter by running OREOs and coconut oil in the food processor for approximately three to four minutes (tbh it seemed like an hour).

2:15pm — I command Siri to set a timer for three minutes. The remedial machine somehow doesn’t understand this so I am forced to set the timer manually. Evan walks by: “Um, it looks like you’ve set your timer for four hours right there.” Well damn.

2:31pm — Evan: “About an hour in and I feel like Reach has got a really good groove going on, Analiese does, too. Elie, I dunno, I caught him dancing for a little bit, then he chopped an onion for like 20 minutes.” At this point we all decide to re-up on some floral inspiration.

2:35pm — I’m hit with a sudden forgetfulness that leads me to suddenly have a brain fart about how to correctly input and attach the receptacle of the food processor. Analiese tries to help me with that. No dice. Eventually I figure it out after having lost some dignity and start working on my potato waffle, which becomes an ordeal after forgetting to put some key ingredients in it and almost having to start that over. At this point Analiese and I feel like we’ve fallen behind. Elie, on the other hand, is feeling confident: “Thirty minutes is all I need, baby!”

2:43pm — Elie’s trio of dishes are starting to come together: the OREO Dunkaroos are done, Stoner Popcorn’s on deck, and he’s ready to start putting together his Big Mac Burrito. Analiese is impressing the room with her OREO mole sauce and made-from-scratch tortillas.

2:50pm — It’s a mad dash as everyone is trying to plate their dishes. Our blown selves were laser focused on the task at hand: Don’t run into each other and fuck up any dishes in the last moments. Did we incorporate every mandatory ingredient? Will we finish on time? Burning questions, like a cinder of lit flower, bore through our inner thoughts. Shit, that’s just me being stuck.

3:00pm — Done and done. I survey the scorched battlefield of what used to be a kitchen and nodded proudly. Analiese’s Stoner Breakfast Tacos were complete, presented immaculately on a marble cutting board. Pinterest would approve. Elie’s full spread was on glorious display, showcasing his deft touch with multi-tasking and prioritizing. And me? I’m just relieved to get everything on a plate. But hey, we did the damn thing.

But before we get into the results, here are the completed dishes:

3:02pm — Elie: “I forgot an ingredient, but I’m hoping none of y’all notice!” Duly noted my guy.

3:10pm — After Pete’s finished taking photos of all the dishes, tasting begins. Knowing Elie’s missing something, I’m keen on finding it until I exclaim, “YOOO YOU FORGOT THE FRIES!”

3:25pm — Everyone’s turned in their scores for each dish and Evan begins to tally up the results. To celebrate our accomplishment, Analiese, Elie, and I all revisit the Gelato, which at this point has created a fixated state that’s just right, not too heady, with just the appropriate amount of creative juices unlocked within us.

3:40pm — What’s taking Evan so long? Is he disarming a bomb over there?

3:45pm — After what seemed like an eternity and a half, Evan reveals the results. Looks like the Gelato’s gotten to him, too. It’s a two-way tie for the winner, between me and Analiese. Elie caught that L for not including the McDonald’s French fries. But to be honest, I thought he had the tastiest item in that Big Mac Burrito. Flavor was straight up phenomenal and comforting. About the results, Analiese and I are feeling equal parts relief and shock. What are the odds? Yet, the total tally of scores seemed off to us. Following a meticulous survey of Evan’s math, it was determined that it all didn’t add up.

3:51pm — RECOUNT!

3:55pm — The new results, done with correct math, are revealed. Analiese and her Stoner Breakfast Tacos win! I knew it, though. Tortillas and mole made from scratch? Yeah I can’t compete with that.
