Is Adding Mayo The Secret To Extra Moist Chocolate Cake?

@cooking_with_caz

@bdylanhollis @portillosofficialtiktok #mayonnaisecake

♬ Pure Imagination – Kathleen

I was today years old when I found out that adding mayonnaise to a chocolate cake recipe levels it up to an upper echelon type of moistness. On a recent TikTok bender, I happened upon the above video for a chocolate cake recipe that incorporates mayo into it.

As the home chef indicates in the clip, the mayonnaise adds “extra egg yolk and a very creamy texture.”

Apparently this cake hack hearkens back to around World War II or the Depression, when cooks were forced to get creative with replacements in recipes due to ingredient scarcity, as cited by The Kitchn.

Though mayo in cake may incite an automatic “nah” on paper, the end result of the creamiest, most moist chocolate cake ever sounds enticing enough to try.

Pancake Cereal Is The Hottest Breakfast Trend Since Buttering Toast

Pancake Cereal might be one of the most innovative and visually amazing breakfast hacks we’ve seen come across this newsroom. Even better, it’s ridiculously easy to pull off.

The trend has been popping up all over our social feeds lately and, frankly, it’s pretty awesome.

As seen by @TheNaughtyFork‘s video, all you have to do is add pancake batter into tiny little coin shaped circles over a hot skillet. Let one side cook then, taking a spatula, carefully flip your mini pancakes over to evenly cook off the batter. What’s left is a ton of tiny little pancakes you just toss into a bowl with a pat of butter and drown in maple syrup.

Wonder how many folks are attempting this viral sensation while working from home?

KFC Rice Cooker Hack Is Some Next-Level Cookery

While we’re here in the states enjoy our Kentucky Fried Chicken with a fresh buttery biscuit and some dangerously sweet honey sauce, Japanese Foodbeasts on the other side of the world have discovered a game-changing method for fans of the fried chicken chain.

Nextshark reports that a new KFC trend has been sweeping Japan that anyone with a rice cooker must try ASAP.

Called “KFC Japanese Rice,” you take a rice cooker and fill it with rice, chicken stock, and a bit of soy sauce. Then, take two pieces of the Colonel’s Original Recipe Chicken and set it inside the cooker and turn it on.

After the rice is cooked, shred the chicken and mix it into the rice. The result seems to be a wildly flavorful rendition of rice paired with the 11 herbs and spices that make KFC insanely popular in Japan.

Definitely something to consider the next time we order a bucket of the Colonel’s chicken and want to meal prep for the rest of the week.

Wonder how this trick will fare with Popeyes chicken, though?

10 of the Best Vegetarian Options at Taco Bell

A recent episode of Foodbeast’s The Katchup podcast touched on Indian American’s love for Taco Bell. Within the episode discussed the robust veggie-friendly options that are on the Taco Bell menu. And in case you haven’t heard, Taco Bell is supremely veg-friendly. Everything on the menu is customizable, making it easy for people with strict diets. Here are the top recommendations from someone who has spent two decades subbing beef with beans.

Cheesy Gordita Crunch:

Hands down, my favorite item on the menu. Think a puffy, soft shell and hard shell glued together with cheese, plus more cheese, tomatoes, and Spicy Ranch inside. It comes with beef, so make sure to sub with beans instead. Pro tip: ask for nacho cheese on the side if you’re feeling extra indulgent.

Chalupa Supreme:

The Chalupa has a great shell – it’s thick and sturdy but still somehow soft. And inside, you’ve got tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream, cheese, and beans instead of beef.

Mexican Pizza:

Two tostadas, with beans in between (instead of beef and beans together), plus tomatoes and cheese on top, and don’t forget the Mexican Pizza Sauce.

Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes:

These only come without meat, and they’re deliciously seasoned potatoes with cheese and sour cream. Simple and oh so good.

Spicy Potato Soft Taco:

Another vegetarian option on the menu: potatoes, cheese, chipotle sauce, and lettuce in a soft taco. Think the Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes, but inside a taco. What could go wrong?

Cheesy Potato Griller:

If you prefer burritos to tacos, this is the Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes in burrito form. Complete the treat with nacho cheese sauce and sour cream slathered over potatoes, all wrapped in a tortilla.

7 Layer Burrito:

No substitutions needed here either. The seven layers in this burrito: beans, sour cream, tomatoes, cheese, rice, lettuce, and guacamole. A friendly reminder that Spicy Ranch, Nacho Cheese, or Creamy Jalapeños sauces make great additions.

Pintos N Cheese:

You get what you ask for, and in this case you’re asking for a simple side of beans and cheese with a red sauce for extra flavor.

Nachos Bell Grande:

Chips with tomatoes, nacho cheese sauce, sour cream, and beans. Just ask them to skip the beef on this one.

Crunchwrap Supreme:

A post shared by I Like To Eat (@plantbvsedmiamian) on

We’re going to go ahead and assume if you’re still reading, you’re someone who’s had a Crunchwrap before. If not, please go ahead and change that ASAP. There’s nacho cheese sauce inside the Crunchwrap, along with tomatoes, sour cream, lettuce, and you guessed it – beans instead of beef. Pro tip: ask for spicy ranch on the side and drizzle that bad boy all over.

‘Jalisco Style’ Is the Beer Hack You Need to Celebrate National Tequila Day

National Tequila Day is July 24th. It’s a magical day, one that many might be afraid of partaking in. Instead of taking that shot straight, there’s a trick to get it down without the pain.

Here’s a hint: Put it in a beer.

This nifty pro tip is called “Jalisco Style,” which is quite fitting considering that tequila is named after Tequila, Jalisco, the city it originated in.

But on to the specifics. First step, grab an Estrella Jalisco, since this beer is rooted in Jalisco, Mexico.

Second, stick the rim in some Tajin. Drown it in Tajin, even.

Third, and this is the key, add a splash of tequila in your beer. Don’t look at me like that. Trust, it works.

Fourth, squeeze a lime in there. Maybe two, if you’re really feeling crazy.

That’s it!

Now there’s no excuse to not participate in a national holiday such as the one upon us.

Check out the video above to catch a visual of how this is done, and the tasty end result.

Subway Just Became The First Chain To Bake King’s Hawaiian Bread In Stores

In terms of fast food secret menus, none is more legendary than the Animal Style from In-N-Out. The option to add secret sauce, cheese, onions, and a plethora of other condiments to your burgers and fries has become the tried and true way to enjoy the burgers for tons of fans.

In-N-Out may have a new competitor in that space though, because Subway is beginning to test its own version of a secret sub construction method called Aloha Style. The secret ordering method features a first for the industry as well, as Subway is now the first ever chain to fresh bake their own King’s Hawaiian bread.

“Aloha Style” arrives as Subway is testing a new 8-inch King’s Hawaiian sub roll in 300 restaurants in various parts of the country. That test involves two new sandwiches featuring the bread, a Turkey, Bacon & Provolone as well as a Ham & Swiss. However, folks in the test locations can also upgrade ANY sandwich on the menu to “Aloha Style.” What that means is that a typical 6-inch sub will be bumped up to the 8-inch King’s Hawaiian roll, and you’ll get an upgraded portion of meat and cheese to match. The increase amounts to 50% more meat and double the amount of cheese in a 6-inch sub.

Right now, Subway is testing the new bread in over 300 restaurants in the Champaign, Illinois, Reno, Nevada and Richmond, Virginia areas, so you’ll have to head there if you want your go-to sandwich made in this new secret style.

DIY Your Pride With Medicated Make-Your-Own Donuts

It doesn’t take much convincing to see that there’s something about the LGBTQ+ community and cannabis that go together like JVN and a midi skirt. Not only are they a natural fit as once taboo topics and lifestyles only now being embraced by the public on a more national scale, but in addition, the cannabis industry owes a sizable debt to the Queer community, who served as some of the earliest activists for medical legalization in response to the AIDS crisis. Were it not for those individuals, cannabis access as it exists today may not have been possible.

While there aren’t enough baked goods in the world to pay that debt of gratitude, these medicated, decorate-your-own donut recipes using product from Blüm Dispensary might start the ball rolling. Like any good Pride, these donuts are all about creativity and resourcefulness, taking something accessible and elevating it with flavor and flair.

Lemon Lime Galaxy Glazed Donuts

Ready in 25 minutes
Serves 6

Pineapple Express, a Sativa-dominant hybrid, features notes of pineapple and cedar paired with the scent of fresh apple and mango. Together, they make for a flavor profile that will satisfy even the pickiest citrus lovers.

Ingredients
6 store bought glazed donuts
3 cups powdered sugar
4-5 tablespoons milk
1-ounce or 2 tablespoons Kwik Ease Pineapple Express Hybrid Cannabis Infused Beverage (half the bottle)
2-3 varieties of bright food coloring

Preparation

1. Sift powdered sugar into a medium mixing bowl. Whisk in milk until incorporated into a thick glaze. Mix in Kwik Ease Pineapple Express Hybrid Cannabis Infused Beverage.

2. Divide glaze into 2-3 bowls. Add 3-4 drops of food coloring and mix thoroughly until the desired color is achieved.

3. Place donuts 2 inches apart on a cooling rack with a parchment lined baking sheet beneath.

4. Using dedicated spoons, drizzle each donut with a single color at a time and allow 15 minutes for glaze to set.

Chocolate Strawberry Covered Donuts

Ready in 20 minutes
Serves 6

Not only is this chocolate award winning, but its medium-high cocoa percentage (73%) marries beautifully with the sweet ripeness of fresh strawberries for a donut so good it’ll test your restraint.

Ingredients
6 store bought glazed donuts
1½ cups melting chocolate
6 segments Bhang Cannabis Infused Dark Chocolate (10 mg THC per segment)
1 cup fresh strawberries, cleaned and cubed

Preparation

1. In a double boiler pan, bring two cups of water to a boil. Place melting chocolate into the upper pan and reduce heat to low. Stir until smooth.

2. Incorporate and melt Bhang Cannabis Infused Dark chocolate. Stir until smooth, then remove chocolate mixture from the heat.

3. Generously coat the face of each donut with melted chocolate and set on a cooling rack.

4. Garnish liberally with strawberries.

Tip
No double boiler? No problem! You can melt chocolate in the microwave, it just takes a little patience and a watchful eye. Placing your chocolate in a microwave safe bowl, microwave for 10 second bursts at 20% power, stirring in between to keep chocolate even and smooth.

Pride Rainbow Sunburst Donuts

Ready in 10 minutes
Serves 6

While many products have captured the taste of a rainbow, only this recipe will give you the look AND feel of one. After all, what captures the childlike joy of seeing a rainbow quite like an adult version of a gummy rope

Ingredients
6 store bought glazed donuts
1½ cups powdered sugar
4-5 tablespoons milk
6 Flav Cannabis Infused Belts (Strawberry, Mango & Watermelon), trimmed to ¾” pieces

Preparation

1. Sift powdered sugar into a medium mixing bowl.

2. Whisk together powdered sugar and milk to form a smooth glaze.

3. Dip one donut face into the glaze and set on cooling rack.

4. Place belt pieces on top of glaze in a clockwise pattern until a starburst effect is achieved.

Happy June Blüm!

As always, remember that cannabis edibles, especially tasty ones like these, should be clearly marked to avoid consumption by children.

  • Edibles contain THC but because it passes through your stomach & intestines to get into your bloodstream, you may not feel the effects for between .5 to 4 hours. So, don’t overconsume these tasty treats in search of a buzz. Do not exceed the recommended serving or you may end up with far more THC in your system hitting you all at once, which can be unexpected, disorienting and dangerous.
  • Desserts should be bomb, and these are, but we all have a tendency to overindulge when it comes to the sweet stuff. Take your time and savor these badass desserts; you will not only savor them more but the experience will be more enjoyable because you will avoid a cascade of THC hitting you all at once because you snarfed down the entire plate in like two seconds. Be safe. Be smart. Enjoy.
