What Pin-Up Girls Would Look Like As Cabbage

Cabbage

Chinese artist Ju Duoqi is changing the way we look at vegetables by introducing us to “The Fantasies of Chinese Cabbage” — a series of pin-up photos made entirely of cabbage.

Duoqi has created food art before, reproducing famous paintings using only vegetables in her 2010 project “The Vegetable Museum”. Yet for reasons unknown, cabbage was the focus this time around.

Duoqi produced several pin-up portraits made entirely out of green cabbage and inverted the color of some pictures to create a red, seductive tint. She even managed to make a Marilyn Monroe lookalike, if the actress was made out of cabbage (obviously).

This Machine Recycles Bottles and Feeds Stray Animals at the Same Time

Recycling

Istanbul, Turkey is home to about 150,000 stray cats and dogs among its 14 million citizens. With such a high number of animals roaming the streets, the government has tried to come up with ways to relieve the issue, including stray banishment from the city. But Turkish company Pugedon took it upon themselves to relieve part of the issue while also keeping the city clean.

Pugedon came up with a recycling receptacle that doubles as an animal nourishment station. The concept is simple — just place a plastic or glass bottle into the bin, and food and water is dispensed at the bottom for strays. There’s also a place for users to pour excess water into bowls for the animals.

The value of recycled bottles actually covers the cost of the food, so this self-sustaining project is a win-win for both parties.

How Much Countries Spend on Food, Based on Annual Income [INFOGRAPHIC]

Food Spending

When dishes like chicken mole pizza and a deep fried bacon wrapped turkey leg exist, it might seem like us Americans put a lot of time, energy and money into our diets. But compared to other countries, the average American spends a small amount of income on homemade food — only 6.6%.

According to this USDA data, richer countries tend to spend less on food overall. Of course there are factors affecting these conclusions, like the price of food and varying taxing systems, but the US still spends less than any other country in the world.

Although the average US citizen shells out about $2,273 per year for food, Pakistan still spends the most based on income percentages — about half their annual income, or around $415.

Food Spending

Another interesting discovery is higher food spend is often linked to malnutrition. This could mostly be due to crop failures and droughts in poorer countries, leading to a raise in food prices.

Plus, they serve as totally functional lids! Also included in this collection are silicone coasters with designs like Pooh stuck in a hole and a jar of honey.

How Much Beer Will Cost You Around the World [INFOGRAPHIC]

Beer

Shelling out a few bucks for a beer is pretty standard here in the US. But do you know how American prices compare to a beer in say, Iran?

According to this infographic by Finance Online, the cheapest domestic beers in the world can be found in both Vietnam and Ukraine, with an average brew in either country costing just $0.59. On the other end of the spectrum, Middle Eastern countries tend to have much pricier beers. A standard domestic ale in Iran would cost you a cool $7.71, followed by Kuwait ($7.09) and United Arab Emirates ($6.20).

Even more interesting is the amount of beer consumed each year; Czech Republic leads the world pack with an average of 419 bottles downed per person over the year, while the US trails at #14 with 217 consumed per person. Das a lotta beer.
