THIS IS THE FUTURE: Drone-Powered Burrito Delivery Service

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles have revolutionized contemporary warfare in such a way that they have sparked a global arms race, as well as provide the flimsy new premise in the most recent Call of Duty video game. It now seems like the ante has been raised in UAV applications in the form of… food delivery service.

You’re looking at the first ever drone-powered burrito delivery service affectionately dubbed The Burrito Bomber. Simply order a burrito using your smartphone and a waypoint is set to your current location. That information is uploaded into the bomber’s autopilot and proceeds to your location. Your burrito is then parachuted down to you in their convenient Burrito Delivery Tube. Parachuted. Down. To. You. Food being delivered without use of UAV is starting to look a little bit dated right about now. At least there’s no delivery boy to tip.

Burger King Offering 55-Cent Whoppers Starting December 6th

burger king

At the ripe old age of 55, the Whopper has aged exceptionally. It’s the George Clooney of fast food sandwiches. Don’t tell Big Mac, but I hear the Whopper has had some work done over the years.

In celebration of the Whopper’s momentous 55th anniversary, participating Burger King restaurants are offering Original Whoppers for 55 cents with the purchase of any Whopper sandwich beginning December 6. It goes without saying (but I’ll say it anyway) that this mouth-watering offer is only available for a limited time — from December 6 – 9, to be exact. So go out and grab this iconic slice of Americana while you can because, let’s face it, it’s the closest you or I will ever get to George Clooney.

Chicken ‘N Waffles Syrup for Your Chicken and Waffles

If the delicious marriage between fried chicken and waffles wasn’t awesome enough, Torani went ahead and condensed that savory, sweet-salty flavor combination into a syrup. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to get this particular flavor in stores just yet, but it is available directly from their website.

I have absolutely no idea why this initially started out as an April Fool’s joke. This idea has so many applications beyond smothering your waffles! Torani even offers up some inventive recipes in which to utilize this new savory creation. Chicken and waffle cocktail anyone?

This Edible Lamp is Deliciously Illuminating

No trickery involved here, folks. YOU ACTUALLY CAN EAT THIS LAMP! Huh, that honestly sounded a lot more appealing in my head. Whatever, the point remains that this lamp is almost 100% edible. You just have to remove all of the electrical components and soak it in clean water for a bit before you start pigging out on office supplies.

The lamp itself is comprised of vegetable glycerine and agar, a gelatinous substance derived from red algae and polysaccharides. This means that, not only is this lamp awesomely edible, it’s totally vegan! No animal-derived gelatin-based substances here. Once it’s all ready to eat, the texture and consistency is said to be similar to that of wet gummy bears and is available in a variety of flavors including cherry, apple, orange and blueberry.

This could really be the start of a host of edible office supplies. I think we could easily pull something like this with paperclips. One of these days…

Here’s What A Bowl of Lego Ramen Soup Looks Like

Winter really is the most wonderful time of the year for this food blogger; not because of the parties for hosting, nor marshmallows for roasting, nor the caroling out in the snow (as if we ever get snow down in Southern California). No, winter means it’s the perfect time to enjoy a nice piping-hot bowl of soul-soothing ramen noodle soup. Of course, nobody is more aware of that fact than the nation of Japan, where the University of Tokyo has offered up this creative iteration of one of the nation’s most celebrated ramen establishments using Legos.

The display was part of the school’s 63rd Komaba Festival which hosts more than 100,000 people and is one of Tokyo’s largest festivals. The exhibition piece was inspired by Ramen Jiro, a tokyo-based ramen shop that is renown throughout the country and has even made The Guardian’s 50 Best Things to Eat in the World. The ramen shop is known for its thick and hearty pork bone, or tonkotsu broth piled high with a mountain of green onions, beansprouts, cabbage and pork belly slices, or chashu. That might explain why this particular Lego bowl looks like someone sneezed a random assortment of building blocks on top of it. Here’s a glimpse of what the real deal looks like:

Heat-Resistant Cadbury Chocolate Won’t Melt At 100 Degrees Fahrenheit

A breakthrough in chocolate technology has been achieved. Cadbury Chocolate has devised a way to create a heat-resistant chocolate that is capable of withstanding temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or just over 100 degrees Fahrenheit for up to three hours! That old M&M’s slogan seems dated and unnecessary now that the worry of chocolate melting in our hands may soon become a thing of the past.

The technology behind this ever-solid chocolate isn’t the work of some fancy new synthetic additive, nor is it the result of black magic or witchcraft. According to the 8,000 word patent application sent in by Cadbury, the secret behind making this new item lies in the chocolate making process where ingredients are broken down together. Using this new methodology, the sugar used in the chocolate is broken down into much smaller particles, allowing less fat to cover them, which effectively makes the resulting chocolate more heat-tolerant.

This new heat-resistant candy will prove useful in countries known for exceptionally warm climates such as India and Brazil. Of course, it’s likely a matter of time before we start seeing this new chocolate pop up elsewhere. After all, who really wants their chocolate to melt all over the place?

This Is What A Bacon Cheeseburger Bloody Mary Looks Like

bloody mary

Everyone has their own cure for hangovers. Personally, I eat the dirtiest, greasiest most viscerally satisfying food I can conjure up and wrap it up in bacon. The Bloody Mary is arguably the most popular hangover elixir and over at Milwaukee’s Best Burgers, they’re redefining this classic cure using a little bit more than a celery stick.

In addition to a skewered shrimp, asparagus, cherry tomato, brussel sprout, hot dog, cheese block and a couple other spherical foods indiscernible from a cursory glance, this monster of a cocktail is topped off with an entire 1/3 lb bacon cheeseburger! If that wasn’t enough — which, of course it’s not because this is America — you’re treated to a glass of  Sprecher beer to wash it all down. Needless to say, you’re doing it right Milwaukee’s Best Burgers.
