This Gingerbread house was one of the many pastries they were whipping up at the Modern Pastry Shop in Boston! Besides this house made out of jellybeans, Hershey‘s Kisses, candy canes and frosting, they were making a bunch of other delectables that are sure to make satisfy that sweet tooth! Check it out the damage after we raided this old fashion Italian pastry shop!
Red Velvet Cake, Carrot Cake, Strawberry Cheesecake, Tiramisu, Fruit Tarts, Cupcakes and Black & White Cookies only scratch the surface of what they have on deck here!
O yeah, they got a nest full of chocolate eggs! Caramel, Cappuccino, Raspberry and Milk Chocolate are only a few of the many flavors you can choose from.
What we really came for, though, is their freshly made Cannolis!
There are two steps to making your Cannoli here. Your first decision is between a regular waffle shell with no chocolate, one that has its tips dipped in chocolate, and the third choice is your shell fully dipped in chocolate. The hardest of the two steps is choosing what filling you want; with a choice between a traditional ricotta cheese or a more modern twist with specific custards such as vanilla and chocolate.
My friends kept it real by all getting the same type of Cannoli filled with vanilla custard and chocolate tips. Apparently, I kept it realer and opted to go the traditional route and get a plain shell with ricotta cheese!
Getting up close and personal with my cannoli, it was delicious! I thought that the ricotta cheese wasn’t going to be sweet but it was very good and tasted almost as sweet as the vanilla custard filling. Next time I get one though, I might have to mesh the old with the new. Chocolate dipped shell with ricotta cheese = success!
